In 1997, two men wrote a book entitled the Sovereign Individual, which made many predictions that turned out to be true: cryptocurrency the internet economy, the rise of political correctness and the nationalist reaction, remote workforces, digital nomads, increased terrorism, the gig economy, and the stock market crash.
They also predicted things which haven’t happened yet; most notably, they predicted the downfall of industrialism and the transition to the new Information Age, where we’ll witness the collapse of the welfare state and the rise of the sovereign individual.
In Episode XVIII of The Multiversity Project, we evaluate this argument, explore alternative possible futures like totalitarian world government and corporate rule, and then discuss what this prospect will mean for the world’s poor, and what its moral implications are.
